Inspiration for Blueberry Lavender Almond Milk Recipe

My local Trader Joe’s used to sell Blueberry Lavender Almond Milk, and it would fly off of the shelves. I was devastated to find out it had been discontinued. I decided to formulate my own to make up for the loss. The good news is that nearly any nut or grain milk can be used.

Original Blueberry Lavender Almond Milk Ingredients:

  • Almond base (filtered water, almonds)
  • Cane sugar
  • Natural flavors
  • Natural blueberry flavor with other natural flavors
  • Sunflower lecithin
  • Guar gum
  • Sea salt
  • Gellan gum
  • Lavender extract (ethyl alcohol, lavender oil, natural flavor)

The homemade version contains less of these ingredients.

Organic Lavender, Blueberry Sugar, and Nut Milk

For the best flavor, I use organic food grade lavender that can be used for brewing tea. For the milk base, you can of course use almond milk, but you can also use oat milk, soy milk, cashew milk, flax milk, hazelnut milk, or rice milk. To get the blueberry flavor, I use Wild Blueberry Sugar from the Spice & Tea Exchange. This can get expensive and difficult to find, so you can use blueberry extract or flavoring mixed with granulated sugar as an alternative. Simply use 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tsp blueberry extract. You can add more or less extract according to your taste.
