Coffee Butter

Coffee’s beloved flavor can be infused into butter…

Coffee’s beloved flavor can be infused into butter, which creates an enriched flavor profile much more satisfying than simply using instant coffee in baked goods. It’s easy to make, but the magic comes from patience. You’ll want to make this on a day when you’re feeling “cozy” or not in the mood for the great outdoors.

This coffee butter is made by slowly steeping the butter with your favorite coffee beans for at least three hours. I love to use beans from local coffee companies. My favorites currently come from Blanchard’s Coffee in Richmond, Virginia. Ethiopian, Kenyan, and Colombian coffee beans are also excellent for making this butter.

Use this butter to create coffee flavored muffins, cookies, buttercream, or any other dish from your imagination!

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 3 hours 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 Sticks (452g) Unsalted Butter
  • 1 Cup (226g) Coffee Beans

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients in a medium sauce pan. Set pan on low heat and let butter and coffee beans steep for a minimum of 3 hours and up to 5 hours.
  2. Keep a watch on your butter to make sure it does not boil or simmer. It is okay if it browns a little, but you’re not looking to brown the butter completely.
  3. Strain out the coffee beans and let the butter cool in a heat resistant container.
  4. Keep butter in the refrigerator until ready to use.

    Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

  • For intense espresso flavored treats, just substitute regular butter for coffee butter.
  • Use your favorite coffee beans to capture the flavor you desire the most.
