As the flowers begin to bloom in my area, I wait patiently for the lavender to come to life. Lavender is not only a precious color, but it also has a beautiful aroma. Its scent and flavor can all be captured in a cup of sweet lavender tea.

Inspiration for Lavender Tea Recipe

I am a huge fan of loose teas. They tend to be higher in quality than the tea that comes in bags. They also have a more robust flavor and can be steeped multiple times. This lavender loose tea was inspired by the lavender I am growing in my garden this year. I love the aroma and its soothing properties. Loose tea does require a strainer, so sometimes I use my homemade tea bags to make the brewing process easier.
Lavender tea by itself is very strong and floral, so it is much more palatable with a generous spoonful of honey. The honey adds a dose of flavor, complexity, and richness we cannot obtain with granulated sugar alone.
Honey Matters

Did you know that honeys can vary in flavor depending on what kind of nectar the bees collect? You can alter the flavor of your tea simply by experimenting with honey flavors. I like to use wildflower honey for its sweet, earthy, and fruity notes; it’s my go to honey because it is widely available where I live. However, when I get the opportunity, I prefer goldenrod honey for its “butterscotch” and spicy notes.
If strong flavors are not your favorite, try milder honeys such as orange blossom (sweet and citrusy) or clover (sweet and delicate).
