Which activities make you lose track of time?
I have a laundry list of activities that inspire time blindness in the moment. But, I definitely lose track of time when the weather is dreary, I have a day off, the house to myself, and a stack of fabric.
Summer is brutal in southern Virginia right now, and the goal has been to stay cool instead of looking cute. But, I thought I would make some summery items because my summer clothes are lacking.
Bandannas using scrap fabric

I have a huge stack of fabric to bust through, including scrap fabric from projects completed long ago. I got the idea to make pretty boho bandannas from Beepworld’s video on using stash fabric and scraps to make a summer wardrobe.
I don’t know why I didn’t do this earlier because I wear bandannas and headscarves all the time. The scraps were too small to make ones large enough for a chunky knot or bow, so I created mine to have ties. This set of four did not disappoint! Aren’t the sassy cats cute?
Upcycled faux leather bag

I bought this inexpensive faux leather bag for my honeymoon nearly five years ago, and I enjoyed wearing it, but the leather near the zipper started wearing out. I didn’t want to get rid of the bag or paint over the peeling material, so I created a new facing to cover the damage.
This was all carefully sewn onto the bag using the whip stitch. I love the end result more than the original bag!
Summer tanks with linen and cotton

They aren’t finished yet, but I’m having fun making these summer tanks without a pattern or tutorial. I don’t have a dress form, so I’ve been draping the fabric off my own body, basting the shapes into place, and sewing the pieces together.
Linen is officially my favorite summer fabric. I underestimated how well it keeps you dry, clean, and comfortable when it is 105 degrees outside! Cotton comes to a close second place.
