The saying “Make Do and Mend” came from the United Kingdom during World War II as a government campaign designed to save resources, especially clothing, to aid in the war effort. The campaign included practical guides and community groups designed to help citizens care for, alter, and mend clothes.

Today, the campaign still has value, for modern convenience has wreaked havoc on our environment and finances. My Make Do and Mend journal series documents projects in which I repurpose, mend, and repair items around me rather than discard them.
